A national standard for responsible business practice is being offered to Brighton and Hove enterprises. The scheme recognises achievements by organisations for environmental and social responsibility. It promotes enterprise activities which conserve natural resources and support community development projects.

The standard is tailored for small to medium sized organisations in public, private and not for profit sectors.

Retail alive and well in Hove

The latest survey of vacant shops in Hove and Portslade has shown another great result with only a handful of empty premises in each street. The comprehensive survey of retail units throughout the area is undertaken every six months by members of HBA.

The latest survey taken in March shows an overall vacancy rate amoung the 785 retail units has dropped from 3.9% in August 2011 to a new record low of just 3.7% This makes Hove and Portslade one of the most successful shopping areas in the UK at the present time.

Top of the street success stories comes Portland Road which has seen its 15 vacant units reduce to 10 over the last six months while Hove’s Western Road has seen its four vacant units reduce to just two.

Amoung the new kids on the block, opening new busiesses in previously empty units are Zanaam, Paraquatics, Body base, Harlem Hairdressers and Sussex Funeral Services in Portland Road. The Co-Op and Eat Good in Western Road, Mobile Phone Station in Station Road, Slice Cafe in Church Road, Department in Blatchington Road and T Mobile in George Street.

Hove Business Association now has two dedicated retail ambassadors who we hope will help support and encourage this positive trend.
